6:49 p.m.: When thinking of what to try this evening, the news from #jimrutledge this week was on my mind. Jim has announced that he is crowd funding a new startup distillery called #jwrutledgedistillery . The campaign kicks off Monday May 2nd on indiegogo. (Www.jwrutledgedistilleryllc.com) I have a couple of #fourroses #singlebarrel #bourbon bottlings. One was almost empty and when I looked, it was a pick for #myrtlewoodliquors in #eureka CA bottled June 16th, 2011. I believe I bought it that year and have had tastes over the past five years. The Four Rose recipe is OBSV. The color is a light tan with a watery clear edge of almost a half inch. The nose is really appealing with notes of wood, dust, toffee, buttery shortbread, cinnamon, red apples, raspberry and just ripe red plum. The palate seems to have received the worst of the aging effects. The palate was sweet with caramel, light woodiness, dust, a medium alcohol burn (not bad for 100 proof) and more of a subdued yellow apple and pear flavor. The finish is long and satisfying, warm, with caramel notes and an edge of mint. Overall it was quite enjoyable. I think the palate came across as slightly one-dimensional, but the nose and finish still came on full force. It's tasting great, especially considering that it has been open almost five years. The problem with rediscovering something delicious down the road is that all the original stock is gone and likely already drunk. #humboldtcounty #torturedbythirst #fourrosesdistillery
