Petroleum Incident in Eureka

A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near waterways in Eureka at around 12:21 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Per NRC report " CALLER IS REPORTING THE DISCOVERY OF AN UNKNOWN DISCHARGED OIL (LIKELY LUBE OIL) IN A MARINA ON HUMBOLDT BAY. THE SOURCE IS UNKNOWN, BUT MAY BE FROM A NEARBY FISHING VESSEL."

Per NRC report " REMEDIAL ACTIONS MADE NOTIFICATIONS. ABSORBENTS WERE DEPLOYED. "

This was the 1st hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Eureka area this year and the 1st petroleum spill in the county overall.
