Petroleum Incident in Trinidad

A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near waterways in Trinidad at around 11:41 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15.

About 59.7 gallons of a substance described as “fuel - jet jp-5 type” were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Per NRC report: Caller reported a USCG Helicopter released material during a hoisting operation, fuel was released into the Pacific Ocean to balance the aircraft load, material is unrecoverable

This was the 1st hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Trinidad area this year and the 1st petroleum spill in the county overall.
