Sewage Incident in Fortuna

A new hazardous materials incident involving sewage has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a road in .

About 13875 gallons of sewage were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

(1) sewage system surcharge due to capacity, overflowed out of manhole and into Rhonner Creek (dumps into eel river). (2) sewage system reached capacity and sewer cleanout overflowed onto land and never reached surface water.

This was the 1st hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Fortuna area this year and the 1st sewage spill in the county overall.
