A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.
According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near waterways in Petrolia at around 4:34 p.m. today.
Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:
A vehicle was found partially submerged in the Mattole river and was on fire following unknown circumstances. The fire was extinguished by the local fire department with the vehicle originally left partially submerged in the river. It is believed oil was leaking from the vehicle prior to the vehicle being removed. A light sheen has been noted on the water.
This was the second hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Petrolia area this year and the 50th petroleum spill in the county overall.
