Chemical Incident in Weitchpec

A new hazardous materials incident involving chemical has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near waterways in Weitchpec at around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

RP advised that an inspector found concrete over the creek bank on the Yurok Tribe Reservation, possibly from cleaning out a cement truck over the hillside. There are sings that some of the concrete had eroded and been released into the creek. RP advised that the Yurok Tribe has jurisdiction on this area of the creek.

This was the second hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Weitchpec area this year and the fourth chemical spill in the county overall.
