Petroleum Incident in Eureka

A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near merchant/business in Eureka at around 2:45 p.m. today.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Per caller, appears like oil is coming out of the ground up through the asphalt and is leaking into the stormdrain. Not stopped and not contained. Unknown where the product is coming from or how much has been released. Will be on the access road behind the physical therapy office near the diesel generator.

This was the 35th hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Eureka area this year and the 67th petroleum spill in the county overall.
