Sewage Incident in Eureka

A new hazardous materials incident involving sewage has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a commercial in Eureka at around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 12.

About 1,000 gallons of sewage were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

RP states: There was a blockage in the main line causing the release of the material. The release is stopped and contained. The Eureka Slough was impacted from this release. The material is unrecoverable.

This was the second hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Eureka area this year and the first sewage spill in the county overall.
