Chemical Incident in Fortuna

A new hazardous materials incident involving chemical has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a road in Fortuna at around 4:58 p.m. today.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

**Potential Release** RP advised that a the housing on a Nuclear Density Gauge was cracked after a roller ran it over. The source rod itself is not cracked in anyway and the gauge has been placed back into its carrying box. No waterways were impacted.

This was the second hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Fortuna area this year and the second chemical spill in the county overall.
