Petroleum Incident in Arcata

A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near waterways in Arcata at around 8:10 p.m. today.

About 4.3 gallons of a substance described as “fuel - gasoline mixed w motor oil, vehicle fluids” were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Vehicle left the roadway and entered the waterway causing the release, material flowed directly into the water causing a sheen, the vehicle is being removed and the sheen is dissipating, unknown who is handling clean up.

This was the fourth hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Arcata area this year and the 25th petroleum spill in the county overall.
