Petroleum Incident in Eureka

A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near waterways in Eureka at around 6:30 a.m. yesterday.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

RP advised that there is a sheen in the water every morning for the last three mornings. The size of the sheen varies from about 40 ft x 40 ft or 100 ft x 20 ft. The sheen dissipates throughout the day, reappearing the next morning. RP advised that they are unaware of the source of the sheen

This was the 11th hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Eureka area this year and the 34th petroleum spill in the county overall.
