Incident in Arcata

A new hazardous materials incident has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a residence in Arcata at around 10 a.m. on Monday, July 27.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Caller states that there is seepage coming from the hill side near her home and that it is possibly entering her well. She suspects that it is entering her well because there is an unknown oil sheen on the surface of the water in her well and as well as red algae. There have been reports of unknown oil sheens on surface water on nearby properties . Caller states that she has also contacted the city of Arcata and she did not receive any advice or direction.

This was the sixth hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Arcata area this year.
