Chemical Incident in Arcata

A new hazardous materials incident involving chemical has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a road in Arcata at around noon today.

About five gallons of a substance described as “coolant (anti- freeze)” were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

RP states that a mechanical failure on a truck caused the release. No water impacted, the coolant released onto the road. The reporting party will conduct cleanup.

This was the eighth hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Arcata area this year and the third chemical spill in the county overall.
