Petroleum Incident in Eureka

A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a road in Eureka at around 4:10 a.m. today.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Per RP-Semi truck that was involved in a collision released diesel onto the asphalt in the roadway after being overturned. Truck initially caught fire but was extinguished by a pedestrian with an extinguisher. No other Hazmat and no waterways impacted. Lumber blocking a roadway that will be cleared and reopened soon.

This was the 17th hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Eureka area this year and the 53rd petroleum spill in the county overall.
