Sewage Incident in Arcata

A new hazardous materials incident involving sewage has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near an industrial plant, merchant/business, road in Arcata at around 5:30 p.m. today.

About 3,600 gallons of sewage were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Caller states that a sewer main failed resulting in the release of approximately 3600 gallons of sewage to James Creek. Sewage is being bypassed around the break and lift stations servicing the damaged line are shut off.

This was the second hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Arcata area this year and the third sewage spill in the county overall.
