Petroleum Incident in Blue Lake

A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near merchant/business in Blue Lake at around 4:30 a.m. today.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Abandoned vehicles, various large equipment, and numerous storage containers are leaking which is causing the release, material is flowing onto soil then going into a storm drain during rain events, the drain leads to the Madd River which is a drinking water source, local authorities are aware of the location but have failed to take any action to mitigate the long term problem.

This was the first hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Blue Lake area this year and the 39th petroleum spill in the county overall.
