Petroleum Incident in Blue Lake

A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a road in Blue Lake at around 2:52 p.m. today.

About 50 gallons of a substance described as “diesel” were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Vehicle accident involving a big rig resulted in the release from the saddle tank onto the roadway and soil. Big rig brakes failed resulting in the big rig overturned on highway 299. No waterways impacted.

This was the second hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Blue Lake area this year and the 51st petroleum spill in the county overall.
