Petroleum Incident in Fortuna

A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a road in Fortuna at around 10:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 18.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Caller states due to a single vehicle accident a box truck is on its side off the roadway. This caused a release of 4-5 gallons of diesel and 4-5 gallons of motor oil to spill onto a dirt surface. No road closures expected. Release is stopped and contained with no waterways impacted. Cleanup hasn't been determined.

This was the first hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Fortuna area this year and the fifth petroleum spill in the county overall.
