Sewage Incident in Arcata

A new hazardous materials incident involving sewage has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a residence in Arcata at around 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 13, 2021.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

RP States: On the side of the apartment building the sewage clean out is overflowing onto dirt/grass and has continued to flow down to the apartments parking lot, Unknown if any waterways are being impacted at this time but storm drain grates are near by. The City of Arcata and Humbolt County have been notified but were unable to respond do to the sewage line possibly being privately owned. The sewage overflow has been occurring on and off for the last six month, the property owner is aware of the issue but no permanent repairs have been made.

This was the third hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Arcata area this year and the third sewage spill in the county overall.
