Petroleum Incident in McKinleyville

A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a commercial area in McKinleyville at around 4:36 p.m. today.

About two gallons of a substance described as “mineral oil non pcb” were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

RP STATES: A pad mounted transformer had an equipment failure resulting in the release of the material. The release is stopped and contained. No waterways were impacted. Clean up is in progress through a contractor.

This was the fourth hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the McKinleyville area this year and the 44th petroleum spill in the county overall.
