Petroleum Incident in Trinidad

A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a road in Trinidad at around 3:38 p.m. today.

About 15 gallons of a substance described as “non pcb mineral oil” were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Per caller, due to weather conditions a tree came down on a line snapping a pole causing the transformer to hit the ground, releasing the substance onto roadway and roadside ditch. Stopped and contained. Contractor conducting clean up.

This was the third hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Trinidad area this year and the 61st petroleum spill in the county overall.
