Petroleum Incident in Eureka
A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.
According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near waterways in Eureka at around 1:34 p.m. today.
Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:
Per NRC Report: The caller stated that the USCG discovered a sheen in Humboldt bay. The source of the sheen is currently unknown to the caller. The caller stated that the sheen was broken up into (8-10) streaks stretching 10 mile down the bay, with a width around 1/10 of a mile. No action has been taken.
This was the 29th hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Eureka area this year and the 63rd petroleum spill in the county overall.
