Sewage Incident in Rio Dell

A new hazardous materials incident involving sewage has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a utilities/substation in Rio Dell at around 10:30 p.m. yesterday.

About 27,000 gallons of sewage were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Caller stated the release is due to a storm surge in the area and possible damage to the drainage system due to the recent earthquake in the area, the release is currently impacting Eel River.

Vacuum trucks on scene and additional contractors contacted to help contain the release.

This was the first hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Rio Dell area this year and the fourth sewage spill in the county overall.
