Petroleum Incident in Hoopa Valley Indian Reservation

A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near an indian reservation in Hoopa Valley Indian Reservation at around 8:30 a.m. today.

About one gallon of a substance described as “diesel” was released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Per NRC Report: The caller states a fork-lift developed a leak, and the product impacted tribal lands. The leak spreads approximately 3 square feet. Remedial Actions: Soaked material with absorbent pads, dug one 5 gallon bucket of material and will dispose in a landfill.

This was the first hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Hoopa Valley Indian Reservation area this year and the 26th petroleum spill in the county overall.
