Petroleum Incident in Ferndale

A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near waterways in Ferndale at around 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 13.

About 20 gallons of petroleum were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Reporting parting found an illegal dump of waste oil. Most is contained in buckets placed on the bank of the river. Some has spilled out onto the soil. No sheen is present.

This was the first hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Ferndale area this year and the 28th petroleum spill in the county overall.
