Petroleum Incident in Arcata

A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a road in Arcata at around 9:54 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 28.

About 60 gallons of a substance described as “fr3 dielectric fluid” were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

RP States: A third party vehicle struck a pad mounted transformer causing the FR3 fluid to spill onto the surrounding soil and decorative rocks, no waterways were impacted. A contractor is on scene conducting spill mitigation.

This was the sixth hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Arcata area this year and the 30th petroleum spill in the county overall.
