Sewage Incident in Eureka

A new hazardous materials incident involving sewage has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a road in Eureka at around 8:05 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 4.

About 225 gallons of sewage were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

RP States 225 gallons of sewage released onto into vegetation and 1/4 of the sewage went into a waterway. The release was caused by rock build up in sewer main, No cleanup was done, sewage dried up on pavement. Remainder of sewage is non-recoverable.

This was the 16th hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Eureka area this year and the 16th sewage spill in the county overall.
