Petroleum Incident in Eureka
A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.
According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a residence in Eureka at around midnight on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2022.
About two Cu.Ft.s of a substance described as “hydraulic oil” were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.
Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:
Per caller: (historical, about a year ago) while working the land, the line busted off the excavator that was being used, the pipe or hose broke off, causing a release onto the soil. The contractor placed dirt over it, but unsure if oil is still there or if its spreading. No water has been impacted.
This was the 17th hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Eureka area this year and the 33rd petroleum spill in the county overall.
