Petroleum Incident in Orick
A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.
According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a road in Orick at around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 8.
About 20 gallons of a substance described as “gasoline” were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.
Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:
RP states there was a single vehicle auto accident where the vehicle went off the road over an embankment and crashed into a redwood tree. The vehicle is a Toyota pick up truck. There was a release of fuel and anti-freeze from the vehicle as well as unknown number of 5-gallon gas cans that were ejected from the vehicle and leaked gasoline. All leaking fluids impacted the soil and did not reach any waterways. All leaks are stopped and gasoline absorbed into the soil.
This was the second hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Orick area this year and the 35th petroleum spill in the county overall.
