Petroleum Incident in Arcata

A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a road in Arcata at around 7:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 1.

About 15 gallons of a substance described as “non-pcb mineral oil” were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Per the reporting party: The landowner hit a telephone pole located on their property causing it to fall over and break open the transformer causing a release of 15 gallons of non-pcb mineral oil. The oil released onto the soil, gravel, and dirt. Cleanup has been conducted by a contractor and repairs have been made by PG&E personnel.

This was the seventh hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Arcata area this year and the 39th petroleum spill in the county overall.
