Sewage Incident in Fortuna

A new hazardous materials incident involving sewage has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a city fire department in Fortuna at around 12:20 a.m. yesterday.

About 23,500 gallons of sewage were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

per Reporting Party: Rain storm overtook the city sewer system causing 23,500 gallons to release from a manhole at 0020 into a catch basin and in Rohner Creek. 0700 stoped 12500 gallons recoverable Eel river

This was the third hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Fortuna area this year and the sixth sewage spill in the county overall.
