Sewage Incident in Rio Dell

A new hazardous materials incident involving sewage has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a road in Rio Dell at around 11 p.m. yesterday.

About 1,000 gallons of sewage were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Per reporting party: Due to rain/groundwater, sewer lines have been inundated. Still releasing out of a manhole, down a closed gravel road into the Eel River, away from private property. RP will attempt to cleanup after the rain stops. Spill will stop when the rain stops. Signs posted.

This was the fourth hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Rio Dell area this year and the seventh sewage spill in the county overall.
