Petroleum Incident in Hoopa
A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.
According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near merchant/business in Hoopa at around 3 p.m. today.
Less than seven gallons of a substance described as “insulated oil with unknown pcb” were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.
Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:
Reporting party states, due to a storm, a tree struck a powerline and a pole mounted transformer causing a leak of less then 7 gallons of oil with unknown PCB onto the soil and vegetation. Clean up and recovery is being conducted by a private contractor. No water ways have been impacted at this time. Spill is curemtly stopped and contained.
This was the first hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Hoopa area this year and the fifth petroleum spill in the county overall.
