Petroleum Incident in Eureka
A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.
According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a residence in Eureka at around 9:30 a.m. today.
Less than 10 gallons of a substance described as “non pcb vegetable oil” were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.
Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:
Per reporting party: PG&E crew were off-loading a transformer to install when the wheelbarrow used tipped over the brand new transformer onto the driveway, releasing less than 10 gallons of Non PCB transformer vegetable oil. About 95% of oil is on the driveway and the rest is on the roadway. Absorbent and pads have been placed and the clean up crew on route. No waterways were impacted.
This was the fourth hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Eureka area this year and the seventh petroleum spill in the county overall.
