Sewage Incident in Eureka

A new hazardous materials incident involving sewage has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a residence in Eureka at around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12.

About two gallons of sewage were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Per Reporting Party: Sewage released due to a broken sewage line onto pavement at a residence. No impact to waterways. The break occurred on 03/12/2024, leaking .31 gallons a day until 03/18/2024. The sewage has evaporated, but the reporting party has fixed the pipe today.

This was the seventh hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Eureka area this year and the 12th sewage spill in the county overall.
