Petroleum Incident in Hoopa
A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.
According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a utilities/substation in Hoopa at around 11:30 a.m. today.
Less than one gallon of a substance described as “motor oil” was released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.
Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:
Per the Reporting Party : Rainwater overtopped a secondary containment barrier that had been put in place around a generator (located at a PG&E substation) that had been leaking oil. The rainwater/oil was contained with booms and absorbent pads and the original secondary containment barrier was elevated and reinforced. No waterways were affected. A contract crew is handling clean up.
This was the third hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Hoopa area this year and the 15th petroleum spill in the county overall.
