Petroleum Incident in Arcata

A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a road in Arcata at around 11 a.m. today.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Per the reporting party: A reported waste management vehicle was releasing an unknown amount of hydraulic oil onto the surrounding concrete and has potentially impacted a storm drain. The hydraulic oil was releasing from the vehicle and also a bucket that was mounted on the front of the vehicle. The caller reported that cleanup was already being conducted and that the storm drain had been blocked off.

This was the third hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Arcata area this year and the 16th petroleum spill in the county overall.
