Incident in Eureka

A new hazardous materials incident has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a residence in Eureka at around 5 p.m. today.

About 1,000 gallons of a substance described as “contaminated water” were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Per the reporting party: 1000 gallons of waste water was witnessed being pumped out into the gutter and into a stromdrain. It is believed that this water is used in the growing of Marijuana. The stormdrain potentially empties into a local creek. This release has been on going for over a year per the reporting party.

This was the eighth hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Eureka area this year.
