Petroleum Incident in Eureka
A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.
According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near waterways in Eureka at around 9:26 a.m. on Friday, June 14.
Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:
Per the NRC report: Caller reported an unknown sheen from an unknown source on Humboldt Bay. Caller stated the sheen is a black color, and that they discovered a garbage bag containing oil on the water.
Remedial actions: Sorbent boom and pads deployed.
This was the 12th hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Eureka area this year and the 22nd petroleum spill in the county overall.
