Petroleum Incident in Carlotta

A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a road in Carlotta at around noon on Wednesday, July 31.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Caller states that a truck was driving down the road and suffered a ruptured hydraulic line. The resulting release was an approximately 200 ft long and 2 ft wide hydraulic oil stain on a remote logging road. The driver noticed the incident and stopped the vehicle. A small puddle formed under the truck as the driver deployed booms and called in the release. Ecology responded and remediated the release with oil absorbants and booms.

This was the first hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Carlotta area this year and the 26th petroleum spill in the county overall.
