Petroleum Incident in Eureka

A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near waterways in Eureka at around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Per NRC Report, "The caller stated that they discovered an unknown sheen from an unknown source in Humboldt Bay."
—-SHEEN INFORMATION—-Sheen Color: RAINBOW. Sheen Size Length: 20 FEET. Sheen Size Width: 2 FEET.
—-WATER INFORMATION—-Body of Water: HUMBOLDT BAY.
—-REMEDIAL ACTIONS—-THE CALLER STATED THAT MAINTENANCE STAFF AT THE MARINA ARE PREFORMING A CLEANUP OF THE AFFECTED AREA.

This was the 15th hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Eureka area this year and the 27th petroleum spill in the county overall.
