Petroleum Incident in McKinleyville
A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.
According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a road in McKinleyville at around noon on Friday, Aug. 16.
About five gallons of a substance described as “5 gallons used oil” were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.
Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:
Per reporting party, Seven buckets of used oil, totaling approximately 5 gallons, were found on a roadway. About 1/2 cup of this oil affected nearby vegetation. The spill has been contained in covered buckets. It was first reported on August 16, 2024 to with an email sent today to the Humboldt County Environmental Health, and cleanup details are not yet available. There has been no impact on waterways.
This was the third hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the McKinleyville area this year and the 29th petroleum spill in the county overall.
