Incident in Eureka

A new hazardous materials incident has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near waterways in Eureka at around 1:20 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Per reporting party, A fisherman reported noticing approximately three dark spots, each about 1 foot by 1 foot, in Humboldt Bay to the Humboldt Bay Harbor District. The source of the sheens is unknown. Cleanup will be carried out by the Harbor District maintenance staff.

Per NRC: —-SHEEN INFORMATION—-Sheen Color: DARK BLACK, Sheen Size Length: 1 FEET, Sheen Size Width: 1 FEET
—-WATER INFORMATION—- Body of Water: HUMBOLDT BAY., Water Supply Contaminated: UNKNOWN
—-REMEDIAL ACTIONS—- THE CALLER STATED THAT THEY PREFORMED A CLEANUP OF THE AFFECTED AREA.

This was the 18th hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Eureka area this year.
