Incident in Blue Lake

A new hazardous materials incident has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a construction site in Blue Lake at around 5:20 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Per reporting party, During the abandonment of a pipe, an issue arose with a plug at the end, resulting in the release of approximately 3,000 to 7,000 gallons of cement water. The release has been stopped, but it affected an unknown outlet area, flowing 80 feet beyond the outlet into a dry channel. Since the channel is dry, there is no drainage for the release. Cleanup efforts are currently being carried out by a contractor under the supervision of Caltrans. A spill communication plan is also being implemented at this time.

This was the first hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Blue Lake area this year.
