Petroleum Incident in Eureka
A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.
According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a residence in Eureka at around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25.
Less than two gallons of a substance described as “mineral oil” were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.
Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:
Per the reporting party: A mechanical failure on a pole mounted transformer caused less than two (2) gallons of mineral oil to leak down the pole and onto the sod and a picket fence below. This release has been stopped and contained and no waterways were impacted. A contractor will perform the clean-up.
This was the 20th hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Eureka area this year and the 35th petroleum spill in the county overall.
