Vapor Incident in Whitethorn
A new hazardous materials incident involving vapor has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.
According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a residence in Whitethorn at around noon on Sunday, Sept. 22.
Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:
Per the NRC report: "The caller reported that the individuals at the incident location is burning wood to create charcoal. The burning is releasing harmful gases and chemicals into the air which is creating health concerns. This has been ongoing for at least a year and a half."
This was the first hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Whitethorn area this year and the second vapor spill in the county overall.
