Petroleum Incident in McKinleyville
A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.
According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near waterways in McKinleyville at around 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3.
Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:
Per reporting party: A private citizen reported that there is a petroleum substance of an unknown origin creating a sheen on Norton Creek, a tributary of Mad River. The private citizen also collected objects with the oily substance deposited on them and provided it to the reporting party.
This was the sixth hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the McKinleyville area this year and the 39th petroleum spill in the county overall.
