Petroleum Incident in Ferndale

A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a residence in Ferndale at around 6 a.m. today.

About 20 gallons of a substance described as “non-pcb transformer oil” were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Per reporting party, due to the weather, a pole broke, fell over and caused a transformer to release about 20 gallons of non PCB oil . The oil released out to the dirt, vegetation area. No waterways were impacted. The area has cleaned up and waste has been removed for proper disposal.

This was the second hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Ferndale area this year and the 43rd petroleum spill in the county overall.
