Petroleum Incident in Eureka
A new hazardous materials incident involving petroleum has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.
According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a residence in Eureka at around 10 a.m. today.
About five gallons of a substance described as “gasoline” were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.
Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:
Per the reporting party, the information provided is from a third party, and the release source is currently unknown. The reporting party is on-site, and it has been confirmed that the release has occurred onto asphalt road and into a nearby storm drain, the downstream destination of which is unknown. The release has been stopped and contained within the drain. At this time, it is unclear who will be responsible for the cleanup efforts.
This was the 21st hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Eureka area this year and the 45th petroleum spill in the county overall.
