Sewage Incident in Eureka

A new hazardous materials incident involving sewage has been reported to the California Office of Emergency Services.

According to a report published by the office, the incident took place at or near a road in Eureka at around 8 a.m. today.

About 1,875 gallons of sewage were released to the environment, according to the person who called in the report.

Here’s the description of the incident that was recorded by the Office of Emergency Services:

Per reporting party, due to storm surge there was an overflow of 1,875 gallons of sewage at a manhole, out to the street and into a storm drain. The release was controlled at 0915 hours.

This was the 24th hazardous materials incident recorded by the Office of Emergency Services in the Eureka area this year and the 25th sewage spill in the county overall.
